In May 2006, the name Tom Cholmondeley came to the limelight for the second time after he shot and killed a Nakuru resident by the name Robert Njoya. In the legal battle that ensued, the great-grandson of the famous lord Delamere, one of the first and most influential British settlers in Kenya was sentenced to eight months in prison but served only five months behind bars. A year earlier in April 2005, Cholmondeley also shot a Kenya Wildlife Service game ranger Ole Sisina but this case was terminated.
