Causes of darkening in neck area

This is a common complaint in our population.

Causes:
Acanthosis nigricans: darkening with thickening of skin, skin tags
Friction: wearing chains at sleeping at night.
Stiff collar rubbing against neck
Over weight: BMI more than 25 .
Sun tanning
Lichen planus pigmentosus
Dermatitis neglecta
Eczema
Drug induced pigmentation.

How to prevent
Keep weight under check
Do not wear chains while sleeping
Do not scrub
Use a sunscreen


Evaluation
Fasting and PPBS and fasting and PP insulin levels

Treatment
Find the underlying cause
Reduce weight.
Glycolic acid cream at night 6-10% cream twice a week.
Hydroquinone based creams twice a week
Creams such as demelan or biluma cream may help a little

Home remedies:
Uptan,
Potato juice.
