Fleadh Nua 1985

Whatever about Reeling in the Years, there have always been plenty of reels and jigs played and sets danced at Fleadh Nua down through the years and 1985 was no exception. 

Here’s a remarkable piece of archive footage from that year’s Fleadh Nua which captures all the excitement and energy of past Fleadhanna before health and safety regulations made dancing on the back of moving trucks a thing of the past!

As well as the amazing floats in the Cultural Parade we get a glimpse of the Aos Óg Concert in the Dánlann, dancing at the the Fleadh Mass in the Cathedral, workshops,  concerts and some mighty sets danced at Cois na hAbhna, as well as some familiar faces. 

Watch out for the late Sonny Murray and Karl McTigue, Robbie McMahon and Séamus Mac Mathúna, Pat Liddy leading a set dancing workshop, the Liverpool Céilí Band, Geraldine Cotter giving a Tin Whistle class and if you’re quick, you might spot a young Sharon Shannon performing with the Comhaltas Tour of Britain Group…
