How to Show Family Dysfunction in Movies - Xavier Dolan

There is no perfect family...therefore cinema should naturally reflect this.

So, how do we show the external and internal consequences of family dysfunction in movies? In this first part of our new video essay series, we examine the movies that haven taken this task seriously and have given us honest renditions of problematic families.

We take a look at three movies from renowned Quebecois director Xavier Dolan:
