The Akheri Munajat (ending prayers) in the 2nd phase of the Biswa Ijtema, the second largest Muslim congregation after the Hajj, has brought an end to the religious gatherings on Sunday on the banks of the Turag river at Tongi.
Thousands of devotees from home and abroad converged on the bank of Turag to take part in the Munajat bringing an end to the three-day mammoth congregation.
The first phase of Biswa Ijtema was held at the same venue on January 11-13. Tabligh Jamaat is organising the 48th Biswa Ijtema, also called the `World Muslims' Congregation`.
The next gatherings would be held on January 9 to 11 in first phase and 16 to 18 January next year in second phase.
Meanwhile at least ten people have died so far on different reasons in the gatherings since its start on Friday.
More than 25,000 devotees from over 100 countries, including China, USA, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and UK are taking take part in the 48th Ijtema.
The first Ijtema was held at Kakrail Mosque in the capital way back in 1946, the second one in Chittagong in 1948 and at Pagar in Tongi in 1966.
The Biswa Ijtema is being held on the eastern bank of the Turag River since then as space at Pagar was not sufficient.
