Song Il-Kook stands on the barren red land in West Africa

The worst drought in history has swept the western African continent. In particular, the Sahel in the northern Burkina Faso, is in a most severe situation, with tens of millions of children in danger of dying of starvation. A landlocked country, Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world with per capita income of only 508 dollars, placing it 164th among 170 nations.

Many children are now at the brink of death due to various diseases resulting from malnutrition. Some are digging for gold in the dangerous underground tunnels of gold mines to escape from hunger.

Actor Song Il-gook appeals to the viewers for a helping hand from a land of despair.
