A comparison of the Romanian Cugir WASR 10/63 and the Serbian Zastava N-PAP M70 or M70B1 AK 7.62x39 Rifles. Although they look very similar, the two rifles are very different, with varying features and designs. I will show how to tell the difference between them, and highlight some of the pro's and con's of each ak variant.

Major differences when comparing, include country of manufacturer, stock and handguard fitting, chrome lining of the barrel, and bolt carrier finish. Price is usually comparable between the two rifles, so many new buyers have a hard time understanding the differences between them.This information will also help new rifle owners save money by not purchasing aftermarket akm parts which are not compatible for the varied designs.

My recommendation would be the WASR akm rifle, but many shooters have preferred the npap M70 for its accuracy improvement due to non-chrome lined barrel and heavier trunnion reinforcements.
