In this video we teach you how to install the new 2020 Nest Thermostat if you have a 2 wire heating system like a heat only furnace or boiler system. The new 2020 Nest Thermostat requires a common wire for installation and power of the Nest Thermostat when wired to a 2 wire system.

The previous versions of the Nest Thermostat like the Nest 3rd Gen and Nest E thermostat in most cases don't require a common wire for installation.

To install the Nest Thermostat in a 2 wire configuration with a common wire transformer you will need a common wire transformer in addition to the Nest Thermostat.

2 Wire Nest Thermostat Installation:
1. Turn off the power to the HVAC system.
2. Remove the cover from the existing thermostat and take a picture of the wiring.
3. Remove the existing thermostat.
4. Mount the baseplate on the wall and route the existing wires and the common wire transformer wires through the baseplate.
5. Install the common wire transformer wires and the existing thermostat wires as shown in the video.
6. Install the Nest Thermostat on the Nest baseplate. With the Nest installed on the baseplate restore power to your HVAC system and plug in the common wire transformer.
7. Open the Google Home app and follow the instructions for setting up your Nest Thermostat.
