On the night of November 10, 2019, 20-year-old Nancy Sharma vanished from her home in West Delhi’s Janakpuri. Her husband, Sahil Chopra (then 21), along with two of his associates — Shubham and the driver Badal — are alleged to have lured her on a “long drive” to Panipat, Haryana.

According to police investigations, tensions between Nancy and Sahil were already simmering. The couple had been in a live-in relationship for about two years before marrying in March 2019. Disputes over money and suspicions of an extramarital affair reportedly added to the friction.

On that fateful ride, they stopped near the Panipat refinery. It’s alleged that Sahil shot Nancy in the head at close range, then beat her as she lay dying. Her body was later dumped in the bushes near the refinery.

Nancy’s family had tried to reach her via phone, but her calls kept getting cut. When she didn’t return, her parents filed a missing person complaint. Meanwhile, Sahil claimed that Nancy had left on her own, but police investigators found inconsistencies in his statements and travel logs.

Under mounting pressure, Sahil eventually broke down and confessed. He led police to the spot where Nancy’s decomposed body, bearing gunshot wounds to her head, was recovered.
Nancy’s family alleges that dowry harassment and torture played a major role in her killing. The police registered FIRs for murder, kidnapping, dowry harassment, and criminal breach of trust against Sahil and his accomplices.

To this day, the case continues to draw attention across India as an unsettling example of love, deception, and betrayal—where a “promised ride” turned into a ride to death.
