TRUCK SAFE: On the road to Vision Zero

Euro NCAP is revolutionising road safety with its TRUCK SAFE Programme, a pioneering initiative designed to elevate the safety standards of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). As HGVs play a critical role in Europe’s economy, their involvement in a disproportionate number of severe road crashes highlights the urgent need for improved safety measures.

Designed around Euro NCAP’s four stages of safety, the TRUCK SAFE system evaluates trucks across three essential pillars: Safe Driving, Crash Avoidance, and Post Crash Safety. The programme focuses on active safety systems, such as autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and other advanced driver assistance features. By assessing these technologies, Euro NCAP ensures that heavy trucks meet the highest standards of road safety, reducing the risks for all road users.

On 20 November at HORIBA MIRA in the UK, Euro NCAP reveals the first-ever Truck Safe ratings, setting a new benchmark for HGV safety. These results are expected to drive innovation across the industry, encouraging manufacturers, fleet operators, and policymakers to adopt higher safety standards and make roads safer for everyone.
