Page High School (Williamson Co., TN) Transition II special education students participated in an AbleVoices photography project led by teaching photographer, Jen Vogus. Students took part in a variety of activities to learn the many features of digital cameras and multiple photography techniques to better tell stories through their photographs. An exhibit (Able Voices: Sharing Who We Are Through Our Photographs) served as the culminating experience of the project and the students displayed their photographs that represent their interests, strengths, and the people, places, and things that are most important to them and define them as individuals. This experience amplifies the students voices and illustrates the power of self-expression. Photography is a powerful tool to promote learning, build confidence, spark creativity, develop social skills, encourage dialogue, and promote advocacy for people with disabilities.
