About the artist -
Mrinalini Kotur's Sitar playing style is deeply inspired by the ancient Dhrupad tradition, known for its slow and expressive vocal-like quality or 'Gayki Ang'. Her Guru, Vidushi Jyoti Hegde, a renowned Rudraveena maestro, influences her melodious approach to playing. Mrinalini focuses on establishing the mood of the Raag slowly and with heartfelt emotion, rather than chasing applause with flashy techniques. A very prominent characteristic of her playing is the Gat. She highlights the emotional impact of Gat, a part of the performance often overlooked. For her, Gat represents the conclusion of the Raag, providing profound satisfaction. Despite being pre composed, Gat should be presented in a beautiful way that brings immense bliss to the listener, like to nourishing the soul. Her distinct approach towards Gat is majorly influenced by Kirana Gharana which reflects minute sentiments of music. In a time where many seek quick applause, Mrinalini prefers to immerse herself in slowly unfolding the nuances of Raag, guided by her Guru's
teachings. She finds fulfillment in the profound emotions and deep understanding through music, valuing authenticity and not merely projecting ‘super-fast techniques’. In short, she believes in a thought of Atmaranjan (delighting soul) and not mere entertainment of mind.
Under Jyoti Hegde Ji’s guidance, Mrinalini has performed publicly at various locations including Abu Dhabi, BITS PILANI Goa and Nippani etc. earning praise from connoisseurs and august audiences.

Apart from her musical pursuits, Mrinalini holds a post-graduate degree in Marathi and is highly regarded as a skilled translator. She plays a crucial role in bridging the literary worlds of Karnataka and Maharashtra by translating Kannada literature into Marathi. Mrinalini is a brilliant
and dedicated artist, steadily gaining recognition for her extraordinary music.
