💦 FEATURED in this video - We set out to try four methods of dousing the jib; #1 Roll from luff, #2 Roll from clew, #3 Gather and truss with spare halyard #4 Drop to the deck. Methods #1 and #4 worked well; even combined, #2 and #3 were difficult to accomplish.

Crew Kevin, Wayne, Christine, Mack, Lisa and Joan practiced the first attempts, and crew Mack, Scott, Chrissy and Brian took the second watch. If the crews look weary - it's because first they had to suffer a practice engine failure necessitating raising sails while drifting. Next they experienced steering failure and had to setter with sails while rigging the emergency tiller and regaining control. Finally, they had to sail to an anchorage due to hypothetical wind failure. THEN they practiced what to do if a roller furling jib jams or is inoperable with an approaching violent storm that can make your vessel sail wildly at anchor or drag anchor.
