Imagine trying to design a single space that could encourage sustainable travel, community gathering, and formal parades, all while projecting both inclusiveness and security. That's the challenge landscape architects face. The ways in which public space design affects the way we interact with our fellow citizens are fascinating, and star landscape architect Gina Ford tells us what it's like to design for the community values we all cherish. Gina is a principal and landscape architect in Sasaki’s Urban Studio. Her teaching includes guest critic and studio instructor roles at the Harvard Design School, MIT, and RISD. She holds degrees in architecture from Wellesley College and landscape architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and was the recipient of Wellesley’s Shaw Fellowship, the Janet Darling Webel Prize, the Hyde Chair at the University of Nebraska, and the Charles Eliot Travelling Fellowship. Gina was also recently elevated to the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Council of Fellows, after having been nominated by the Boston Society of Landscape Architects (BSLA). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
