Gatsby and Daisy are BOTH Defeated By Social Class [Novel Analysis: The Great Gatsby]

Описание к видео Gatsby and Daisy are BOTH Defeated By Social Class [Novel Analysis: The Great Gatsby]

Jay Gatsby comes from humble beginnings, making his relationship with Daisy taboo. F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel explores how both Gatsby and Daisy are trapped by a rigid societal structure that does not allow people who hail from a lower social class, like Gatsby, to rise in status. In this Great Gatsby analysis, I explore how Fitzgerald uses the novel to critique 1920s society and the wealthy elite who defeat Jay Gatsby, the tragic hero. The author suggests that the American Dream was a myth all along.

FILM
The Great Gatsby (2013), ©Warner Bros. If you have not already watched it, I recommend Baz Luhrmann’s excellent portrayal of the novel, particularly if you are studying the text because it stays fairly close to the original (apart from the Nick is an alcoholic bit :D).
