📖 STORY: LOST HOURS

The clock glows 2:43 AM, and I’m still wide awake. My thoughts are a tangled mess, one thread of overthinking looping into the next. I tried to sleep really, I did but my mind is like a broken machine, stuck in overdrive, turning the simplest worries into insurmountable mountains. The deadlines, the meetings, the emails piling up in my inbox they all seem louder in the silence of the night.

Everyone expects you to keep going, to deliver, to perform, but no one teaches you how to rest. I wonder, do others feel this too? Or is it just me trapped in a constant loop of doing and failing to unwind, pretending everything is under control when, inside, it’s chaos?

I reach for my phone, scrolling aimlessly through social media. Every image, every smiling face, feels like a reminder that I’m the only one left behind. It’s strange how I can be surrounded by people during the day and still feel so alone at night.

Sometimes, I wonder what it would be like to stop, just for a moment, to step off this relentless carousel of tasks and responsibilities. But the fear kicks in what if I fall behind? What if I’m not enough? And so, I stay stuck, drowning in invisible pressure, replaying conversations and to-do lists over and over, hoping for a solution that never seems to come.

I sit up, my chest heavy with a familiar weight. It’s the weight of unmet expectations, the fear of not being able to meet tomorrow head-on. And yet, despite the exhaustion, I know I’ll wake up and do it all over again. Not because I want to, but because I have to.
