Using theatre and science to explore conflicts around human-wildlife relations.

The play “Unruly” was produced as part of the Unruly Natures research project (www.unrulynatures.com) by Empatheatre (www.empatheatre.com). It builds on a large survey of residents living on the Cape Peninsula in Cape Town, in areas regularly visited by baboons, as well as interviews and archival research. Starring renowned actor Andrew Buckland, the play tells the story of a disgraced primatologist who moves into a fictional suburb and struggles to navigate the politics and polarisation that explode after the alpha female from the local baboon troop disappears. This video is a short trailer for an upcoming documentary about the research project, with footage from the recent tour of the show in different communities across the Peninsula.
