This video tells the real-life story of Major Mohit Sharma, an Indian Army officer whose life was defined not by rank or medals—but by fearless leadership and absolute devotion to duty.
From the halls of the Indian Military Academy to the most dangerous counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir, Major Mohit Sharma stood out as an officer who always volunteered for the hardest missions. Appointed Battalion Cadet Adjutant at IMA, commissioned into the 5th Battalion of the Madras Regiment, and later entrusted with covert operations, he repeatedly proved that bravery is not loud—it is silent, calm, and unwavering.
In one of the most daring undercover missions, he infiltrated a terrorist organisation under a false identity, living among militants, gathering critical intelligence, and eliminating key targets without ever exposing himself. For this extraordinary courage behind enemy lines, he was awarded the Sena Medal for Gallantry. Earlier, his exemplary counter-militancy work during Operation Rakshak had already earned him the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card.
But his final chapter would define his legend forever.
On 21 March 2009, deep inside the Hafruda Forest of Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir, Major Mohit Sharma led his men into an intense encounter with heavily armed terrorists. In brutal close-quarter combat, he killed four militants and rescued two of his teammates—even after being shot multiple times. Surrounded, wounded, and bleeding, he continued fighting till his last breath, ensuring the mission’s success and the safety of his men.
For this supreme sacrifice and unparalleled courage in a counter-terrorism operation, Major Mohit Sharma was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award.
He was only 31 years old.
