Mollaí San Seoirse (Full Version) ☘️🇮🇪🎶 The tune was composed by composer-harpist Thomas Connellan (c. 1640/1645-1698) and is one of his few surviving compositions, though he wrote 700-800!🥲 I think that adds to my love for this composition, that and how luxurious and dripping with yearning the melody is. It moves in circular patterns, always reaching a little higher until there are bursts of emotion. I think it’s one of the most sophisticated traditional airs. The words were added later by an unknown man who was in love with this Molly character. There are a few different theories/claims about her identity, but there’s a likely match in an heiress of this name in the early 1700s. The speaker might seem a little MUCH to the contemporary listener, but one can feel his grief and not having a chance with the woman he loves, I assume because of class difference. I ALSO assume he’s young, the craytur😅💔.
