Anto RetroGamer presents: the opening cinematic, title screen and intro theme to NHL '94, on the SEGA MEGA-CD (1993). Personally, I played this game on the SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis in North America), but the best intro for this game is the FMV used on a CD format. Shame it's grainy, due to the limitations of being connected to the Mega Drive, but oh well. It's nice to see though. Widely considered an all-time classic hockey game, and to many, the best hockey game ever, and even best sports game ever. The NHL even paid tribute to the game on it's 20th anniversary, by having a special feature on it's website showing game highlights, dubbed over with the game's sound effects and game sprite logos. There is still a dedicated website for the game to this day, and are even mods for the game including up-to-date teams, rosters and even arenas.
NHL '94 features all 24 franchises of the National Hockey League at the time. The Anaheim Mighty Ducks (expansion team), Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Hartford Whalers, Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Quebec Nordiques, San Jose Sharks (expansion team), St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, Washington Capitals, and the Winnipeg Jets. Gotta love those classic logos! The game also included the East and West All-Star teams. FUN FACT: Mario Lemieux is the only player to have an overall rating of 100!
Since the release of NHL '94...
The Anaheim Mighty Ducks have since shortened their name to Anaheim Ducks.
The Hartford Whalers have since relocated to Raleigh, and are now the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Quebec Nordiques have since relocated to Denver, and are now the Colorado Avalanche.
The Winnipeg Jets relocated to Phoenix, to become the Arizona Coyotes, but have returned to the NHL.
