And before y’all say anything, I know, this recording is pretty garbage. As far as I know tho, it's the only one that exists. A VHS camera on a tripod in the back row can only capture so much of such an epic. To make it even worse, half way through the sound recording file was corrupted so they had to splice in sound from a different night, so the second act sound doesn't quiet sync up with the video. But as terrible as it is, Josh was grateful that he had any record of it all. He put every bit of himself into this play and marshalled everyone who worked on it to do the same.

Josh knew this production his magnum opus. This was the second time he worked on the play. The first was during his undergrad at Skidmore, when Erik Ehn wrote it. The script resonated so fiercely with Josh, seeing it fully realized was one of the reasons he went to CalArts for grad school at all. I can’t remember how much the budget was, but I remember that it was a lot as far a CalArts plays go, which is saying something when you consider they weren’t paying for labor and equipment rental. I’d say by far the biggest budget he ever had for a production. We watched it together 3 times and it always made him cry. He would remember and reminisce about what it took to create it. What it was like sitting in the audience.

When I first put it on YouTube, you could only upload 15 minutes of video at a time which is a decidedly terrible way to watch a decidedly terrible facsimile of a performance. So this is for you, Josh. Book Of Tink, in its entirety, from buffalo to Bowie.
