This is a beautiful, yet simple painting project that works well for dementia sufferers. I have created the directive to use blocks and washes of colours in the spaces between the branches, but of course, there is no limit to creativity. I have seen many different approaches to this project with my clients. Some like to design a scene with the tree, while others enjoy playing with the blocks and washes of colours or to simply create meandering lines. There is no right or wrong, just an opportunity for self expression.

And that's it! Now just start painting. You can play with the colours and the water. What makes the colours more intense? What makes them more subtle? What kinds of lines and shapes can you make with the brush? Water colours are very forgiving and unlike some other materials, they do not require a lot of precision and control to create a beautiful result.
