India celebrates Republic Day with a military and cultural parade in New Delhi amid tight security. January 26 marks the 73rd anniversary of the country’s democratic constitution taking force. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the Armed Forces.

Across India, state governments have imposed a series of restrictions as Covid-19 infection numbers have soared, including shutting down cinema halls and restaurants and ordering schools to operate online.
