Boris Lissanevitch, a Russian businessman, was brought to Nepal by King Mahendra. He was tasked to start Royal Hotel in Bahadur Bhawan (Charburja Durbar) for royal guests. Later he started a restaurant by the name Yak & Yeti.

The small restaurant was later converted into a 5-star hotel in the Lal Durbar built by Bir Shumsher for his wife Top Kumari. The palace had red-marble from Italy. People carried the marble from Calcutta on their back. Belgian lights, Persian Carpets, British Furniture and luxury items from all over the world were decorated in Lal Durbar.
