The United States has officially withdrawn from the Open Skies Treaty on 22 November 2020. The decision was taken half a year ago, and now the required period has expired after the Americans notified the other parties to the agreement.
Then Trump said that he did it because of Russia. Supposedly it is Russia that does not comply with the agreement. Moscow, in turn, has repeatedly denied all of Washington's accusations, emphasizing that it remains committed to the document. The Open Skies Treaty was signed in 1992 and became one of the confidence-building measures between countries after the Cold War. It implies that the parties to the agreement allow each other to fly over their territory to control military facilities. Now the agreement includes more than 30 countries. All other participants remained committed to the document.
