XenTari test 5 of 8

Описание к видео XenTari test 5 of 8

Our goal here is to find out what kind of protection XenTari (Bta) will give us, over a 6-month period, in the field, with Nuc Catch Boxes. We sprayed all frames and inside the boxes in later March. It was Sept 29, 2020 when we did this final inspection. Pros & Cons; We had some damage, more so than I was expecting. We had some good comb also. In retrospect, I think I’d switch out the frames about every 2 months. Speaking of “catch boxes” here. I’m also speaking of “combed frames”. I’d also try to give brood comb, that’s not got so much “bee cocoon” build up. The Wax Warms are after the “bee cocoons”. Some of these frames were very dark and old, and had a heavy load of “bee cocoons” in them. They’d be removed from the system anyway. I still want drawn comb in the catch boxes. Just not the really dark black comb, unless I’m willing to sacrifice it. After 6 months, even with XenTari (Bta), I had some damaged comb. However, I do feel, that if I were to rotate the comb out, and install FRESH comb, that’s recently been sprayed with XenTari (Bta), I’d be in better shape. Or, simply pull in all catch boxes early, like end of June. I’m not terribly disappointed. Now I know. I plan to make my adjustments accordingly. The swarms coming in, do like to find the established comb, already drawn out. They want a clean house. My odds go way up, if I can successfully provide them some fresh new comb. There’s never a “silver bullet” answer in beekeeping. More like “flexible tradeoffs”. Give and take. It’s also worth noting, that we did have some good comb that was in acceptable condition and unharmed by the Wax Warms. In any other scenario, all would have been destroyed. It doesn’t take long for the Wax Warms to destroy brood comb. Also know, these old brood combs where left out in the elements, exposed to any and all dangers. Whereas my comb in the Honey Hut, is at least protected by being “enclosed” in a building, and sprayed with XenTari (Bta). I’ll now inspect each frame for durability and cull out any bad ones. First, they go to the freezer for several days. Then, I’ll inspect and spray. Now we know what to do for next years “catch box” set ups. Cool.
