Hello everyone! Deeply special video this week!

I'm celebrating Xenoblade Chronicles 2's 6th anniversary with a piano cover of "Where We Used to Be". That's right, a solo piano video! That's definitely a first on this channel.

I've been teaching myself how to play piano for just over 3 years now, and it's been quite the journey thus far. These past few years, I have practiced playing the instrument for 1-3 hours almost every single day. The progress I've made in only 3 years makes me extremely proud of myself, especially because I got this far without lessons. I bought a piano during the isolation period of 2020 you see, so piano lessons were impossible to attend in-person.

This song means so much to me. That leitmotif alone, which comes back all the time throughout the game, still gives me goosebumps as it's so beautiful. Easily my favorite musical idea ever.

That being said, I absolutely wanted my playing to pay the piece the outmost respect, even if I still consider myself to be somewhat of a beginner pianist. I worked on learning and practicing this piece every single day, 2-3 hours, for 4 weeks straight with the goal of being able to release it in time for the game's anniversary today.

Not only did I have a specific release date in time for this performance, but I also wanted to record/film the whole piece in a single take like it was an actual piano recital. Playing a four pages long piece without a single mistake was going to be quite the challenge for me, which is why I had to devote so many hours of practice to this one.

Lastly, I'd like to dedicate this video to my Grandma who passed away in 2020, just a few weeks after I acquired my piano. She always enjoyed the little bits of piano that I could play when she visited and I just wish she'd be around to hear this piece today. Also, she was the one who bought me Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for Christmas in 2017, which started it all.

I hope you'll find my playing enjoyable.
