Описание к видео Climate Migration from a Christian Perspective | Process Explorations

Hundreds of millions, if not billions, of people are likely to become migrants due to climate change by the end of the 21st century. Unfortunately, other than a host of military analysts and a few humanitarian groups, far too few people are taking climate migration seriously. This is includes the vast majority of the Christian church in the Global North. Chris Doran seeks to address this by thinking through how false narratives about climate change and migrants in general have contributed to shaping such a meager response on the part of the church. He looks to robust Christian virtues like hospitality, solidarity, courage, justice, and hope as possible novel avenues for Christians in the Global North to think more critically and publicly about climate migration.

BIOGRAPHY

Chris Doran was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. He went on to Seaver College at Pepperdine University to study biology. After receiving a bachelor's degree in biology and then a Master of Divinity from Pepperdine, he went off to Berkeley to study the intersection of theology and science. He returned to his alma mater in 2007 as a faculty member in the Religion & Philosophy Division. After acknowledging that climate change is the most significant issue facing the future of human civilization, he created the Sustainability Minor in 2016. He then created the Sustainability Major in 2021. The Sustainability Program is the largest multidisciplinary program in the history of Seaver College. His book HOPE IN THE AGE OF CLIMATE CHANGE: CREATION CARE THIS SIDE OF THE RESURRECTION looks to understand how the resurrection of Jesus should inspire us to be leaders rather than followers in solutions to climate change and other sustainability challenges. His current research project seeks to articulate a Christian theological response to both human and nonhuman migration and displacement due to the climate crisis.
