Hello neighbor, this is Curt with Etrailer, and today we're gonna take a look at the Titan Chain snow chains in a diamond pattern with assisted tensioning on our 2024 Toyota 4Runner. Now if you've had any experience with this set of chains or if you have any questions about 'em, please leave those in the comments below. We'd love to take your questions and your stories and share them with other neighbors in order to help them make the best decision for themselves. Now, the tires that we have on our 4Runner today are 265 70R17. We've got them mounted on the rear tires as suggested in the owner's manual. So always double check that and make sure that your chain placement is on the correct axle.
To go over the chains themselves a little bit, they are a square link. And what that means is that there's a bit of a squared edge to these. That's really gonna help us out when we're trying to bite into that deep mud, snow, ice, any of those, just gives us a little bit of an extra traction. It's in what's called a diamond pattern. So really, you see these very often in what's called a ladder pattern, where the chains will go straight across, or a diamond pattern like this where they kind of have a different sort of pattern to 'em.
The great thing about a diamond pattern is that you always have chain contact on the road somewhere. These type of style of chains are really, really excellent at improving your turning ability whenever you're driving in those icy conditions. They're still really good with, you know, stopping and moving forward, but turning ability is where they really excel. These are assisted tensioning in that we are running a chain through these tensioners here and tightening them up at the end, so there's not really any need with this set for an additional rubber tensioner that you would put on maybe a ladder style or a style that uses cams to tighten up your chains. Now, these tire chains offer a few features that differentiate them from others that I really like.
For one, the carrying case that you get with it is fantastic. More often than not when you buy tire chains, they might give it to you in like, really like a little canvas sack or something like that. Which are fine, but to be honest with you, after you use them and you're storing them, you really want to be able to keep them in a drier place. And it seems like those bags just don't do a really good job of helping your chains dry out. This is gonna be a great way to keep them organized.
It's gonna be a nice, organized way to keep them in your car should you need them while you're out and about. One of the other things that I really, really like about these chains is that they color code them for a really easy installation. So if you're in low light conditions or even if you're in like a blizzard condition and it's really, really hard to see out there, you shouldn't have any problem with these bright colors kind of figuring out exactly how these are going to go on. And this is a style of chain that is really, really easy to install. If you stick around with us for a few minutes, you'll see how exactly how we got these on. But the best thing about these in my mind is that they can be installed without you actually getting under the vehicle. More often than not, you have to get back there, lay it down, and make connections from behind there. With this, because it's cable-fed, you don't really have to do that at all so you could actually spend all your time more upright, not laying on your back underneath the vehicle in the mud and in the snow. Now, whenever you're installing tire chains, the first step is always going to be to lay your chains out and inspect them. You may notice that I'm wearing gloves for this. I always recommend gloves when handling tire chains. There are some sharp edges to these sometimes, we don't want you to damage your hands. Not only that, it's pretty good practice to know how to put these on while you have gloves on, because chances are, if you have to pull over on the side of the road and install your tire chains, it's gonna be in a situation where you'll be wearing gloves.
