If you’re a regular you’ll know that for the past eight weeks or so I’ve been fully focused on lockdown content that aims to inspire and let people around the world know that we’re all in this together. But sometimes we need a break; we need to laugh and find Joy, literally.

Joy Matashi is many things; she’s what I would call a hair architect – completely self-taught – constantly creating, playing with products, textures and fabrics. She’s also an amazing crochet enthusiast – I keep telling her she needs to launch her own line but she insists she’s too amateur.

She’s not into sharing every single aspect of her day or work on social media, but when she does share something it’s truly a work of art. In this conversation Joy elaborates on the many influences on her work, and how she interprets them into projects with the likes of Converse, as well as collages that have been shown in Nigeria at an art show.
