Описание к видео Panel Discussion – Integrating Contemplative Practice into Education and Lifelong Learning

This is from the first day of the 'Conference for Operationalizing GNH in Bhutan and Beyond' that took place at Dungkar Dzong, Pangbisa, Paro, Bhutan on the 19th of June, 2025.

Moderated by Sneha Poddar, this dialogue brought together Lam Nima Tshering (Zhung Dratshang), Dasho Tshewang Tandin (RTC), Tim Huang (Educator), and Manoj Pavithran (Purnam Centre for Integrality) to reimagine education as a path not just for knowledge, but for inner growth. 📚🌿

The discussion emphasized that in an age of distraction and AI, reclaiming the mind’s potential requires weaving contemplative practice, ethics, and emotional intelligence into both schools and lifelong learning. Lam Nima Tshering reminded us that “everything is created by the mind,” and that meditation reduces the five poisons that cause suffering. Dasho Tshewang Tandin highlighted the toll of social media on students and reframed well-being as a trainable soft skill, insisting that “a distracted mind is an unhappy mind.” Tim Huang added that in this new era, emotional intelligence matters more than ever, urging schools to create spaces where all emotions are welcome and restorative practices replace punishment.

The panel also addressed questions of inclusivity and success. True success, they shared, is not measured in exams alone but in the balance between leadership and well-being. And inclusivity must remain central — children with disabilities, they stressed, should be treasured, not measured, for they often hold wisdom beyond measure. Vulnerability, they noted, is not a weakness but the doorway to deeper conversation and compassion.

Ultimately, the panel urged that education must evolve to train not just the mind, but also consciousness and spirit, cultivating young people who can lead with awareness, resilience, and empathy.
