India and France, two countries on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to abortion rights. While France recently took a historic step by enshrining abortion access as a constitutional right, the situation in India remains more restrictive.

In India, the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, passed in 1971, legalized abortion under certain conditions. A woman can seek termination up to 20 weeks with a doctor's consent, with exceptions for pregnancies arising from sexual assault or carrying a fetus with severe abnormalities. However, societal stigma and bureaucratic hurdles often make accessing safe abortions difficult, especially for unmarried women or those in rural areas.

France, on the other hand, has a long history of progressive abortion laws. Abortion was legalized in 1975, and recent amendments extended the gestational limit and simplified the process. Now, with the right enshrined in the constitution, France stands as a global champion for women's bodily autonomy.
