Brian Rolapp Drops Truth Bomb: Why the Middle Class Will Shape the PGA’s Future

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp is drawing on his experience from the NFL, stressing that the Tour should not rely on only a handful of big-name players. He recently remarked that if a sport depends on just two or three athletes to stay competitive, it stops being a sport and starts looking like a circus. Rolapp began his NFL tenure in 2003 and was instrumental in the league’s major evolution over the next 20 years. Earlier this year, he stepped into his new role as the PGA Tour’s first official CEO, as Jay Monahan prepares to step down in 2025. Speaking at the CNBC CEO Council Forum in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, last week, Rolapp discussed the direction he hopes to take the PGA Tour. "Every sport has its stars, but it's the middle tier that truly keeps things moving," he said, according to Golf Channel. "In my former job, of course we'd showcase the Kansas City Chiefs in primetime whenever possible—but that wasn’t the key to the NFL’s success.
