Jake is a super-happy young man. He always makes everyone smile with his happy personality, great sense of humour and infectious laugh. Look into his eyes. You'll get a great big grin and a twinkle of delight that someone is interested in him. But watch out if you're a lady, as he's got some moves! He'll gaze up at you and ask what you're name is. If you give him this, he'll ask to take a photo of you and for a cheeky kiss! And if you do this for him, he'll bounce up and down in his chair, clapping his hands, and beam with happiness!

Jake is my son and I am trying to raise money to give him some freedom from sitting in his wheelchair and to relieve the leg pain he experiences due to his cerebral palsy and dislocated hips.

We would like to convert our garage to a hydrotherapy room with a small pool or swim spa equipped for his use.

When Jake is taken out of his chair and goes into the water, a whole new world opens up for him. He is so free and finds confidence and abilities which still surprise me now. Jake has found out that in the water he can walk and move as freely as anyone else. It is truely so wonderful to see him like this! You can't help but smile and laugh along with him.
He swims around happily with swimming aids and wants to stay in the water all day.

At present, he has to do two lots of assisted physio sessions daily to stop his joints from getting too stiff and to stop painful leg cramps, which can keep him awake at night.
Even though I move and stretch him as gently as I can, physio is one thing Jake gets upset about as he finds it very painful and stressful. Although we both know it helps Jake, I often feel terrible, insisting that he has to do it when he says he doesn't want to.

A hydrotherapy pool would mean that he could do all his exercise in the water, which I know he would enjoy with the water taking all the weight off his joints and muscles. It really is pain-free physio and I would love to be able to tell him one day that there will never be any of the other kind of physio ever again. He would be so happy!

I've called Jakes fundraising account, "Jake's Splash Of Delight" because that it what enters my mind when I imagine Jake in his pool. He literally splashes and screeches in delight as soon as he touches the water!

Jake has enjoyed sessions at hydrotherapy pools, but he has a very poor immune system, so when he shares the same water, hoists and changing tables as others, if they have bugs or viruses, Jake will pick them up. In putting his face in the water to blow bubbles, he ends up swallowing some which obviously doesn't help. Also, since Jake's sight is impaired, his hearing is amazing (whispering about his Christmas presents in the same room as Jake taught me this!)
Unfortunately, this means any sudden, loud noises make him jump out of his skin. Too much of this can cause enough stress to trigger his epilepsy.
So sharing a pool with other people all splashing away and excited would be a recipe for disaster, I'm afraid.

This bit is about his condition; he suffers with cerebral palsy, schizencephaly (a brain disorder) learning disabilities, epilepsy, dislocated hips, impaired vision and speech. Jake is a full-time wheelchair user and is unable to stand or take his own weight. Everything apart from the epilepsy is from birth, so Jake's reply to anyone who asks, "What's wrong with you?" (toddlers' favourite) is, "Nothing".

Have I tugged on your heartstrings? You know, I'd be swinging off them, if I could!

Please donate a little of your hard-earned to help Jake to have a more pain-free life with a hydrotherapy pool of his own to use every day. I know it would make him even happier than he already is by nature!

Here's where your donations will go. The quote has been provided following a visit by a local, family-run business with great reviews on checkatrade.
