Yeonsangun, also known as Prince Yeonsan, was the 10th monarch of the Joseon dynasty of Korea. Born as Yi Yung on November 23, 1476, he ascended to the throne in 1495 at the age of 18.
He is generally regarded as one of the most tyrannical and cruel rulers in Korean history.

During his reign, King Yeonsangun engaged in various acts of cruelty, including the execution of his own father and half-brother, as well as the persecution and killing of many Confucian scholars. He also imposed heavy taxes on the people, leading to widespread suffering and hardship.

In 1506, Yeonsangun was deposed from the throne due to his tyrannical rule and cruelty. He was imprisoned in a place called Gwanghaegunwon where he was poisoned a couple of months later. He passed away at the young age of 29. He was then buried without any royal honors, the only Korean king to not be honored at the time of his death.
