ACES PhD Candidate Reece Gately takes you through how to make your own artificial muscle, and demonstrates his team's work via a crane built using the muscles, for the University of Wollongong's Global Challenges Innovation Works! competition (which they jointly won!).

Here's what you'll need to make your own artificial muscle at home:

A long party balloon (like the ones they make animals out of!)
A bit of cable sleeve mesh (google it - you can get it from auto shops)
A plastic syringe to pump water into your artificial muscle.
