Описание к видео Discover the Secret History of Cold Springs in 8 Minutes

The first settler of Cold Spring in NJ was Thomas Davenport in 1730. A small trading settlement grew alongside the river by the early 1800s, and in 1818, Gouverneur Kemble and others established the West Point Foundry.

With the influx of workers at the Foundry, housing, local businesses and churches increased and the tiny Cold Spring community turned into a village of 2000 residents in 1846.

During the last half of the 19th century, Cold Spring was a magnet for artists, writers and rich families, all attracted to the outstanding beauty of the Highlands.

Extraordinary mansions were built along Morris Avenue, comprising Undercliff, the home of George Pope Morris, and Craigside, the home Butterfield couple.

After the Foundry closed in 1911, Cold Spring’s prominence faded; however, following World War II, a rebirth began with an influx of businesses into the Hudson River Valley and commuters to New York.

In 1973, the Village was designated a Federal Historic District, and tourists have been exploring Cold Spring’s historic sites, brewery, houses and hiking trails ever since.

The use of two front doors-one opening was typically seen in other inns from the same time period in southern NJ.

I search and explore solo ghost towns, historic, abandoned, haunted places in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. My explorations are based on local creepy legends, old maps research and aimed to discover something new in urban exploring.
