이번 템플스테이는 8월 17일부터 18일까지 1박 2일간 서울 금선사에서 진행되었습니다. 고향을 떠나 한국에 머무는 외국 대사관과 영사관 직원들에게 진정한 쉼을 제공하고, 한국 불교 문화를 직접 체험할 수 있는 기회를 제공하기 위해 마련된 특별한 행사였죠. 13개국에서 온 30명의 대사관과 영사관 직원들이 가족들과 함께 참여했습니다.

템플스테이 프로그램은 사찰 투어, 사찰 음식 체험, 저녁 예불, 108 염주 만들기, 싱잉볼 명상, 수박을 먹으며 계곡에서 법담을 나누는 등 다양한 활동으로 구성되었습니다. 참가자들은 이 시간을 통해 몸과 마음을 힐링하고, 한국 불교와 사찰 문화를 깊이 있게 체험할 수 있었죠. 자연 속에서 일상을 벗어나 자신을 돌아볼 수 있는 소중한 시간이었습니다.

더 나아가 8월 25일과 26일에는 금선사에서 한국어학당에 다니는 유학생들을 위한 비슷한 프로그램이 진행되었습니다. 이번에는 목정굴 법당 투어, 타종 체험, 사경 체험 등 약간의 프로그램이 추가되어, 외국인 유학생들에게 K-불교 문화를 소개했습니다. 특히 뉴욕에서 온 유학생 스님은 한국 사찰 문화에 깊은 관심을 보이며, 미국에서도 이와 같은 프로그램을 진행하고 싶다는 소망을 전했습니다. 중국 유학생들은 다라니 사경 체험에 몰두하며, 이 프로그램을 통해 새로운 영감을 얻었다고 전해집니다.

또한 참가자 중 한 분이 남긴 감사의 글도 함께 나누고 싶습니다. “Just thank you for having the dedication and time to do this beautiful activity. Thanks to this, I met incredible people, and they allowed me to live a magical experience. I have already recommended it to other colleagues. Hello, everyone! Today, I’m excited to introduce a special Temple Stay program that offers a deep dive into Korean Buddhist culture. Recently, the International Dharma Society hosted a unique Temple Stay at Geumsunsa Temple in Seoul for foreign embassy and consulate staff based in Korea. Let’s explore the significance of this program and hear about the experiences of the participants. If you’re interested in Korean Buddhism and temple culture, stay with us until the end!

This Temple Stay took place from August 17th to 18th at Geumsunsa Temple, offering a night and 2days retreat. It was designed to provide a genuine rest for foreign embassy and consulate staff living away from home, while also giving them a chance to experience Korean Buddhist culture firsthand. Thirty staff members from 13 different countries attended, along with their families.

The Temple Stay program featured a variety of activities, including a temple tour, a temple cuisine experience, evening prayers, making 108-bead prayer necklaces, singing bowl meditation, and dharma talks by the stream while enjoying watermelon. These activities allowed participants to heal both body and mind and immerse themselves deeply in Korean Buddhist and temple culture. It was a precious opportunity for them to step away from their daily lives and reflect in the tranquility of nature.

Additionally, a similar program was held on August 25th and 26th for foreign students attending a Korean language institute. This time, the program included a tour of the Mokjeong Cave Temple, bell-ringing experience, and sutra copying, offering the students a unique introduction to K-Buddhist culture. A particular highlight was the participation of a student monk from New York, who expressed a deep interest in Korean temple culture and hopes to implement similar programs in the U.S. Meanwhile, Chinese students were deeply engaged in the experience of copying the Dharani Sutra, finding new inspiration through the program.

One of the participants left a heartfelt message, saying, "Just thank you for having the dedication and time to do this beautiful activity. Thanks to this, I met incredible people, and they allowed me to live a magical experience. I have already recommended it to other colleagues. I hope you can do it next year." This reflects how the Temple Stay provided participants with unforgettable experiences, and we hope it continues to inspire more people in the future.
