Exactly what is intermittent fasting?

In order to understand what it is, let us first understand what it is not: it is NOT magic. There are those out there who would have you believe that the fasting benefits come from the manipulation of various hormones in your bodies. While I don't have enough time in this Quest to go into this in depth, suffice it to say that, in general, trying to "trick" your body into losing weight by manipulating your hormones to any significant degree (without injecting said hormones exogenously) is a futile and foolhardy attempt.

What you should be focusing your efforts on instead is achieving a caloric deficit, and THAT is where the true intermittent fasting benefits come from. Intermittent fasting is nothing more than a template - a template which allows you to minimize hunger and maximize fullness and satiety during the day.

By pushing your first meal back later into the day and making use of a few hunger management tools (black coffee, water, fruit, and activity) during the fasting period, you just may find yourself blessed with increased satiety and appetite control, increased social status, and even increased concentration!
