Produced 5/1/24 - Wahconah Park was built before stadium lighting existed, so the field orientation faces toward the west (and toward the setting sun) to allow it to get as much daylight as possible. Once lighting was installed in the late 1940's, games were played later in the day resulting in the need for a sun delay as the sun set low in the sky, and right into the eyes of the batter, the catcher and the umpire. With the city looking at the full rebuild of the Grandstand, it made sense to look at the possibility of re-orienting the park to face a more optimal direction, as explained in this video.
