Snow Lake to Gem Lake is one of the most popular and rewarding day hikes in Washington’s Alpine Lakes Wilderness near Snoqualmie Pass. This scenic trail features turquoise alpine lakes, rugged Cascade Mountain views, and some of the most iconic hiking scenery in the Pacific Northwest.

Snow Lake draws thousands of hikers each year, but continuing on to Gem Lake offers even more stunning views, quieter trails, and crystal-clear water tucked below Wright Mountain — making this one of the best full-day adventures near Seattle.

Snow Lake: 7.2 miles roundtrip · 1,800 ft elevation gain · 4,400 ft high point

Gem Lake: 10 miles roundtrip · 2,200 ft elevation gain · 4,857 ft high point

Region: Snoqualmie Pass, Alpine Lakes Wilderness, Cascade Mountains, Washington State

Starting from the Alpental Ski Area, the trail climbs through forest, rocky slopes, and alpine meadows before opening up to sweeping views of Snow Lake. From there, the route continues another 2 miles through boulder fields and rolling ridges to Gem Lake, a smaller but incredibly beautiful alpine lake set higher in the wilderness.
