After a year of playing some of A.W. Tillinghast's most outstanding courses, the hits keep coming from this phenomenal course architect. Philadelphia Cricket Club seems like a true classic frozen in time. The course is exceptional, in outstanding condition, with a beautiful layout and unique characteristics throughout. The renovation by Keith Foster removed a multitude of trees and allows for great views of the course at every turn. Tillinghast has always been a master of green complexes and is incredibly maintained on every hole at PCC. More astonishing is the excellent routing. The course felt more like a great novel, with each page evolving with the main character deepening the plot. But unlike pages, each hole showed a little more nuance, leaving a wonderment and wanting what is in store next on the course. Some courses are great, but the vibe may feel too stuffy. At Philadelphia Cricket Club, everyone was smiling, from the caddies to the members and the wait staff. PCC has unmistakable energy and presence. Easily one of the finest Tillinghast courses, it should be on your must play list if ever offered the opportunity to play.
