Come for a ride on the BxM6 from the Parkchester section of the Bronx to the Flatiron District section of Manhattan in New York City. Today's ride is on an MCI D4500 series, among the oldest in the fleet. Despite its age, the ride was very comfortable at a premium price. New York City's Express bus system is among the most extensive intracity express bus networks in the nation and among the most premium using coach buses. Each ride costs more than double the regular bus fare ($2.90 v. $7).

As we drive down Metropolitan Avenue, we see the many shops along the way with fall foliage from the trees. It's really colorful. We get to Hugh Grant Circle where you can catch the 6 train of the New York City Subway. It also goes to the East Side of Manhattan and quite frankly, if it weren't for an experience today, I would've taken the subway. The comfort of the bus does not outweigh the awful traffic along the way along with it's costly price.

After Parkchester, we take the local service road of the Cross Bronx Expressway and eventually get onto the Brick er Expressway via Sheridan Boulevard. On this elevated expressway, we get a nice view of the Manhattan skyline. We slowly get across on the tolled Triboro Bridge into Manhattan.

Once we get into Manhattan, we slowly make it through all the traffic in East Harlem on 2nd Avenue. Then we make a right on 86th Street to 5th Avenue through the Upper East Side. We then head south on 5th Avenue alongside Central Park. By 60th Street, Central Park is over and we are going through Midtown and eventually the Flatiron District where the bus terminates. Enjoy the ride on the bus from the Bronx to Manhattan on a nice fall afternoon.

More about Parkchester
Parkchester is a very nice neighborhood that is within reach for New York City's working-class. In the 1940s the Metropolitan Life insurance company developed a huge swath of land to build apartments around a planned community that would have supermarkets, shopping and offices within the community and all surround the Parkchester - East 177th Street station on the Pelham IRT (6 train). The development is similar to Stuyvesant Town in Manhattan around 14th Street on the East Side.

Although the original development excluded black people, today, the plurality population today is black with a burgeoning community from Bangladesh. The neighborhood is diverse with a significant makeup from Spanish-speaking countries along with a population from the far east.

The neighborhood is known for its treelined roads and red brick buildings with terracotta decorations. Metropolitan Oval serves as the centerpieces of the neighborhood with the a huge fountain and park.
