What is overfishing? And what is sustainable fishing? Dive into the first episode of Conver-sea-tions to learn from fish expert, Dan Averill, Senior Fisheries Manager at the MSC, as he talks to folks about what sustainable seafood really means.

'Overfishing' is when you take more fish than can naturally be replenished. Seafood can be a renewable resource, as long as there are enough fish or shellfish that can continue to reproduce and rebuild the population to roughly the same amount that was caught.

The MSC defines 'sustainable fishing' as seafood that comes from a population with enough fish, does not have a negative impact on the surrounding environment or other ocean life, and is from a fishery managed responsibly that can adapt to changing conditions.
