Researchers at the University of Waterloo in Canada have developed a tiny, rice-sized magnetic robot capable of breaking down certain types of kidney stones without invasive surgery.

Design and Navigation: The device is a soft, flexible hydrogel filament about a centimeter long, embedded with tiny magnets. ⭐Stone Dissolution: Once in place, the robot releases an enzyme called urease. This enzyme increases the local pH level of the urine, which helps to dissolve uric acid kidney stones into smaller fragments that the body can pass naturally.

⭐Mechanical Breakdown: In some designs, the external magnetic field can also make the robot vibrate, physically shattering the stone into passable pieces.

⭐The technology has shown promising results in laboratory tests using 3D-printed models of the human urinary tract and synthetic urine, reducing stone mass by up to 30% in five days.
