I See You is a piece for cello and electronics about a very specific feeling. I was shown this feeling through the medium of film while watching Three Body Problem on Netflix over the winter break, which I greatly enjoyed and found to be full of emotion… it was really one of the most affecting things I have ever watched. For me, and many others, music is a way to express things that I can’t explain in words, so it feels a bit silly to try to explain this in words, but I will do my best: it’s the feeling of truly seeing and understanding another person, and having them truly see you and understand you in return. It’s not “I see you” with my eyes, but “I see you” with my soul. When I thought about this feeling and felt it while watching the specific scene which made me think of this music, there was an otherworldly sound that I heard not possible to create with only traditional instruments, so I decided to dip into my film score and electronic music background to create this new and emotional sonic experience.
