This is the first of MANY rescores to come, so definitely subscribe if you would like to see more!

This was a big scene MANY of us were anticipating to hear the iconic Yuji Koseki Mothra theme from 1961, which was revamped for 2019's King of the Monsters by Bear McCreary. Now, I necessarily can't fault Holkenborg for not using this theme, obviously Legendary is now looking to save as much money as possible with these movies, even if it means sacrificing elements they know fans would adore. It wouldn't have been that big of a deal if Holkenborg wrote an entirely brand new theme for Mothra, but just like the Godzilla theme he wrote, it feels like an absolute slap in the face.

My initial reaction to hearing this theme for the first time, hearing the first three notes, many questions swarmed my mind, "Oh my god? Did Holkenborg finally straighten out and listen to fan feedback? Did he ACTUALLY deliver the Mothra theme we all know and love??? But the following seconds after those notes, it goes in it's own direction. It legitimately hurt hearing this for the first time, very similar to what Holkenborg did with Godzilla's theme.

Writing an original theme is perfectly fine, time and time again has proven in the Godzilla franchise that you CAN create entirely original themes and not rely on the same themes again and again, but when you make a theme that is incredibly similar to a theme EVERYONE knows and recognizes, you are legitimately plagarizing.

One more quick note, Holkenborg would have had to use the Bear McCreary version of this theme as a basis for his new theme because the McCreary version is the only version of the Mothra theme that moves up a minor third from the opening notes of the main melody, every version before that went up a perfect fourth. At some point I want to do a full on in depth video on all of the scores of the monsterverse and break them down, but that's something that will have to wait for a while since I'm doing all of these rescores.

I hope you all enjoy this rescore I made!
