Hey guys! Welcome back to Elder Bastion. This week we have a piece called Shangmen Fortress. This track is inspired by the Red Wolf series by Sabrina Chase, a story where a modern traveller is pulled into an alternate ancient China that never followed our history. It captures the world’s frontier tension—ruined temples, rival generals, and a fortress standing alone against the chaos of a parallel empire. For this track we've used a ton of Chinese folk instrumentation including, the erhu, dizi, guzheng, pipa and bawu! 🌳

Shangmen Fortress is a lonely bulwark on the empire’s frontier, standing watch over a world that split from our own long before the Silk Road was ever dreamed. Here, ancient China never modernized—its river kingdoms guarded, suspicious, and shadowed by old wars and ruined temples. After stumbling upon a strange artifact in Vietnam’s Son Doong cave, Nic Duncan is pulled into this parallel realm, where barbarians prowl the borders and rival generals scheme in the dark. Shangmen becomes her refuge and battleground alike, a place where future knowledge meets ancient danger and one wrong move can tilt the empire toward chaos.
