Описание к видео Why Can’t Women Be Priests The Catholic Answer No One Likes to Hear Made with Clipchamp

In 2022, social media exploded after Sister Nathalie Becquart, a French nun, was appointed as the first woman to have voting rights in the Synod of Bishops—a major decision-making body in the Catholic Church.
This was historic.
People everywhere started asking:
“Is this the first step to women becoming priests in the Catholic Church?”
The headlines were intense:
“A Step Towards Equality”
“The Vatican is Finally Listening to Women”
But quickly, the Vatican made it clear:
Women can participate in leadership discussions, yes.
BUT they cannot become priests.
And that reignited an age-old debate:
Why?
Why, in 2025, can’t Catholic women be priests?
Is the Church sexist?
Stuck in the past?
Afraid of change?
It’s a tough, uncomfortable conversation—especially in a world that fights for gender equality.
Many argue:
“Jesus welcomed women. He treated them with dignity.
So why didn’t He choose any female apostles?”
It feels unjust, even scandalous, that an institution claiming to follow Jesus would limit priesthood to men.
BUT here’s what the Church actually teaches—and it’s not just about social tradition or bias.
It’s about who Jesus is, and how He established the priesthood.
The Catholic Church holds that the priest doesn’t just represent himself at the altar.
He represents Jesus Christ Himself—the Bridegroom to His Bride, the Church.
And since Jesus was male, the Church teaches that this male identity is essential to the role of the priest, especially in the Eucharist.
It’s not about value or worthiness—it’s about sacramental representation.
Pope John Paul II made it clear in 1994, saying:
“The Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women.”
He didn’t say “we choose not to.”
He said:
“We cannot. Even if we wanted to.”
BUT that doesn’t sit well with many today.
Because it feels like a door slammed shut.
Therefore, the Church urges us to rethink what vocation means.
Being a priest is not about power, status, or rights.
It’s about service, in a particular form.
Women in the Church have played monumental roles:
• Mary, the Mother of God, is the greatest human after Christ.
• Women like St. Teresa of Avila, St. Catherine of Siena, and Mother Teresa have shaped the Church through holiness, leadership, and reform.
Their influence had nothing to do with holding the office of priesthood—yet their impact is undeniable.
The Church believes that men and women are equal in dignity, but different in mission.
Still, the conversation isn’t over.
Pope Francis has said:
“We need more women in leadership, in decision-making roles—not just priests.”
He’s appointed more women to Vatican leadership positions than any pope before him.
BUT the Church stands firm that the sacrament of Holy Orders—priesthood—is reserved for men.
That might frustrate some, and it’s okay to wrestle with that.
So here’s the real question:
Is the Church protecting a sacred tradition… or just being stubborn?
Whether you agree or not, understanding the why helps us go deeper than headlines.
And maybe, instead of asking,
“Why can’t women be priests?”
We might ask:
“What is God calling women to do in the Church today?”
Because the mission isn’t just about the altar.
It’s about the whole world.
