Inside The Story: These Trucks Are Not Toys
(KUTV) At the age of 73 you wouldn't expect Stan Gurr to spend so much time playing with wooden trucks, but then again these are no ordinary toys.

In his wood shop, behind his home in Sandy Utah, Stan Gurr is making magic. He's taking ordinary pieces of solid oak and turning them into semi-trucks that stand about a foot and a half tall and are several feet long in some cases. They are one-of-a-kind trucks built as a labor of love with hundreds of hours of work behind each one.Every part of the truck is handmade using no patterns, blue prints or instructions. Stan, a former truck driver, uses only pictures and his memory. He does it because he loves trucks, he always has.

Stan began his hobby 25 years ago when we wanted to build a plastic model of a truck, but couldn't find one he liked so he decided to build one from wood. His early works were simple block trucks with very little detail, but as the years have progressed so have his skills.

Now each truck is an intricate work of art. Over the years he has given away and sold many of his 480 trucks, they've found homes all over the world. One of his prized possessions is the albums of pictures he's kept of his trucks.

Stan is currently in the process of building four trucks right now. He says he could never make a living doing what he does because they are geared towards a specific market, but he loves what he does and plans to keep at it.
